Youth Information Services
Many local councils run Youth Information Services which are aimed at providing information and help to young people who are seeking advice. Many Youth Information Services focus on helping young people solve problems they may have, ranging from stress from exams to sexual health, whilst others will be willing to help young people with literally anything they ask. Youth Information Services can be viewed as a sort of Citizen’s Advice Bureau that caters to the needs of young people.
Most Youth Information services will be run from an office, where young people may visit if they need advice. Some will also run hotlines and increasingly online email services allowing people to contact their local Youth Information Services very easily.
Many Youth Information Services operated by local authorities will run a counselling service, allowing young people who need to discuss any problems they have a chance to talk to skilled counsellors for free.
A lot of young people may be at a loss as to what they should do with their lives after they’ve finished education. This is a problem faced by many young people and Youth Information Services aim to help them over come this, providing them with information about the options they have and how to take the next step. A lot of information about vocational courses and further education will be available for young people at the offices of Youth Information Services. There are a number of privately run Youth Information Services that focus solely on helping young people to understand employment opportunities.
